Santa Susana High School Teacher Wins May Recognition
(CLAIR | Simi Valley, CA) — Dylan Shapiro from Santa Susana High School has been named the May Teacher of the Month by the Simi Valley Education Foundation, marking another recognition for educators who push students beyond their comfort zones.
The foundation selected Shapiro for his ability to create classroom environments where students become more engaged and motivated. His teaching approach focuses on connecting with students individually while challenging them to reach higher academic standards.
"He creates an environment that encourages students to be more engaged, focused, and motivated to do their best," foundation officials said in announcing the award. Shapiro's influence extends beyond daily lessons, with students carrying his impact long after leaving his classroom.
The Teacher of the Month program runs throughout the school year, spotlighting educators across the Simi Valley Unified School District who demonstrate exceptional performance and make significant contributions to their schools. Each monthly winner receives recognition from more than a dozen local business partners.
Community supporters include Chick-fil-A, Grand Canyon University, Harley's Bowl, Iverson Construction, Logix Federal Credit Union, the Chamber of Commerce, Cultural Arts Center, YMCA, State Farm agent Eric Little, Ventura County Credit Union, and the Walt Fuller Foundation. Local officials also present personalized certificates to honorees.
"Together, we send a clear message that the business community supports and values the dedication of our teachers," said Ryan Fowler, Board President of the Simi Valley Education Foundation.
The foundation's Teacher of the Month program represents part of a larger mission that has delivered more than $2.5 million to local public schools since 1989. That investment has funded classroom grants, school-wide projects, department improvements, and scholarships for graduating seniors.
The recognition comes as school districts nationwide face challenges recruiting and retaining quality educators. Local business support through programs like Teacher of the Month helps demonstrate community value for education professionals who shape the next generation.
Santa Susana High School joins other district schools whose teachers have received monthly recognition this academic year. The program continues through the remaining spring months, with nominations accepted from administrators, colleagues, students, and parents.
Foundation officials encourage community members to learn more about supporting local education through classroom grants and teacher recognition programs. The organization accepts donations and volunteer support throughout the year to expand its impact on district schools.
The Teacher of the Month program reflects broader community investment in public education, connecting business leaders with classroom educators who work directly with local students. This partnership model has grown since the foundation's establishment over three decades ago.
