Reagan Library Hosts Free Wildfire Safety Day with Helicopter Demo
(CLAIR | Simi Valley, CA) — The Reagan Presidential Library will host its second annual Wildfire Safety Day on Thursday, June 25, at 10:30 am. The free event brings together local firefighters, emergency responders, and safety experts to teach Ventura County families how to prepare for wildfire season.

The Reagan Library sits at 40 Presidential Drive in Simi Valley, a short drive for most Ventura County residents. This year's event runs from 10:30 am to 1:30 pm and features hands-on activities designed to make fire safety accessible to all ages.
Attendees will find interactive workstations staffed by the Ventura County Fire Department, Ventura County Sheriff's Office of Emergency Services, City of Simi Valley Emergency Services, and the Red Cross. A Ventura County brush fire truck will be on site for close-up viewing. Southern California Edison and Ventura County Regional Fire Safe Council will provide resources on home hardening and defensible space.
Children can visit a goat petting zoo while parents learn evacuation planning. Goats are increasingly used for brush clearance in fire-prone areas, making them both educational and entertaining for young visitors.
At 11 am, a Ventura County Fire Department Firehawk helicopter will perform a live water drop demonstration on the library's South Lawn. After landing, the crew will answer questions and let visitors see the aircraft up close. The helicopter is used in wildfire suppression operations across the county.
Representatives with Ventura County Animal Services will also be onsite. Local firefighters will share lessons learned from recent fire seasons and demonstrate equipment used in the field.
Ventura County has seen increased wildfire activity in recent years. Events like Wildfire Safety Day give residents direct access to the people who respond when fires break out. Families can ask specific questions about their neighborhoods and get advice tailored to local conditions.
The Reagan Library offers a unique venue for community safety education. Its location in the Simi Valley hills makes it a natural gathering point for residents across the county who live in fire-prone areas.
This is one of many public events the library hosts throughout the year. Wildfire Safety Day reflects a growing recognition that fire preparedness requires community-wide coordination. By bringing together multiple agencies in one location, the event makes it easier for families to gather information and build relationships with first responders.
Parking is free. Families are encouraged to arrive early to explore all the workstations before the helicopter demonstration begins. More information is available on the Reagan Library website.
Ventura County residents have a presidential library in their backyard. Wildfire Safety Day is a chance to use that resource for something immediate and practical: learning how to protect homes and loved ones when fire season arrives.
