Who’s Helping Simi Valley Students Succeed? Nominations Open For Lew Roth Awards

(CLAIR | Simi Valley, CA) — Behind every successful student is a network of people who show up every day to support learning, academic growth and opportunities beyond the classroom. Some lead classrooms. Others work behind the scenes. Many volunteer their time. All make a difference in the lives of kids.

The Simi Valley Education Foundation is now accepting nominations for its annual Lew Roth Awards, which honor individuals who provide extraordinary service to students in the Simi Valley Unified School District.

The awards recognize teachers, other employees such as teacher’s aides and yard supervisors, as well as volunteers and administrators whose work strengthens and supports children in ways big and small.

Nominees must work or volunteer within the school district.

Each year, the foundation’s board honors the legacy of Lew Roth, the founder of the education foundation, by recognizing individuals whose service reflects his commitment to public education.

Community members, students, parents and certificated and classified employees at SVUSD are encouraged to submit nominations.

Awards are presented in six categories:

  • Management, including principals, assistant principals, counselors, school psychologists and district administrators
  • Certificated, such as teachers, nurses and speech therapists
  • Classified, including clerical staff, custodial and maintenance workers, food service staff, instructional aides and transportation employees
  • Volunteer, recognizing individual volunteers or members of school or community organizations
  • Special Education, honoring teachers or aides who support students with special needs
  • Lifetime Achievement, for individuals who are retiring or have demonstrated outstanding, long-term service

The nomination form is available online at www.svef.org and must be submitted by March 15.

Honorees will be recognized at the Lew Roth Awards Reception on Mon., April 27, at Strathearn Historical Park, beginning at 5 p.m.

The Simi Valley Education Foundation raises funds to support innovative classroom instruction, department and school-wide projects, professional development for teachers and scholarships for graduating high school seniors.
