Tyler Meek Returns to Simi Valley High to Lead Boys Basketball Program

(CLAIR | Simi Valley, CA) — Tyler Meek is coming home to coach the Pioneers. Simi Valley High School announced Meek as the new head coach of the boys basketball program this week, naming an SVHS alum and former assistant to take over a program he knows from six years on the coaching staff.

Meek leaves his position as head coach at Royal High School to return to Simi Valley High. He spent six years as an assistant coach with the Pioneers before taking the Royal job. Throughout his coaching career, he has also worked with the Simi Valley Cagers club program, teaching fundamentals and preparing local athletes to compete at higher levels.

Beyond basketball, Meek has served as a firefighter and paramedic with the Los Angeles County Fire Department for 19 years. His public service career brings leadership, teamwork, and composure under pressure to his coaching approach.

At Royal, Meek built his program around resilience, accountability, and unity. His coaching philosophy centers on developing competitive teams while building young men who represent their school and community with integrity. He focuses on teaching fundamentals, instilling discipline, and preparing athletes to compete at the next level.

"Simi Valley basketball means a great deal to me, and I'm honored to come back and lead this program," Meek said in a statement shared by the school. "I'm passionate about building relationships, developing our players on and off the court, and creating something this community can rally behind."

The school described Meek as returning with a focus on building strong student-athletes both on and off the court. His background spans high school and community basketball across multiple programs in the region.

Meek will spend the offseason meeting with returning players, evaluating incoming prospects, and assembling his coaching staff. The transition from Royal to Simi Valley High gives him the summer to install his system and prepare for the 2026-27 season.

Summer league and fall open gyms will provide the first look at Meek's coaching style with the Pioneers. The regular season begins with practices in November.

Fans can expect announcements about assistant coaches, offseason workout schedules, and roster plans in the coming weeks as Meek builds his staff and prepares to lead the program he once helped guide as an assistant.
