The Council on Aging opens applications for a seat on the Ventura County Advisory Council -- and wants a local voice to fill it.
(CLAIR | Simi Valley, CA) -- A seat at the table is open, and Simi Valley seniors have until May 8 to claim it. The Simi Valley Council on Aging (COA) is accepting applications from residents who want to represent the city on the Ventura County Area Agency on Aging (VCAAA) Advisory Council.
This is not a ceremonial role. Advisory Council members meet six times a year in Camarillo. They plan and coordinate senior programs across all of Ventura County. They also decide how funds get allocated to support older adults and family caregivers. The person Simi Valley sends to that table helps shape what services get built and where resources flow.
To qualify, applicants must be at least 60 years old and live within city limits. The COA reviews all submissions and recommends one candidate to the City Council for appointment. The selected representative serves a two-year term beginning July 1, 2026 and ending June 30, 2028.
The VCAAA Advisory Council exists to involve the community in creating programs that improve senior living and support family caregivers. Its reach extends far beyond any one city. Decisions made at those Camarillo meetings affect residents aged 60 and older across the entire county.
Simi Valley's senior population continues to grow. The programs funded through the VCAAA touch real daily life -- meals, transportation, in-home support, caregiver resources. A strong representative from Simi Valley helps ensure this city's seniors stay visible at the county level.
The application is available online at www.simivalley.org/vcaaa. The deadline is Friday, May 8, 2026. The COA meets on Monday, May 11, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. to review candidates and make its recommendation. That meeting is open to the public and takes place at the Simi Valley Senior Center, 3900 Avenida Simi.

The window is short. For any Simi Valley senior who wants to carry the city's voice into county policy, this is the moment to step forward.
