Simi Valley Students Can Step Into Global Leadership with YMCA’s Model United Nations
(CLAIR | SIMI VALLEY, CA) — Middle school students in Simi Valley looking to sharpen their public speaking skills, debate real-world issues, and learn how to negotiate like diplomats now have the chance to do just that. The YMCA’s Model United Nations (MUN) program, hosted by the Southeast Ventura County YMCA, is open for registration and kicks off March 11.
Designed for students in grades six through eight, MUN offers a hands-on experience where participants take on the role of international delegates, tackling some of the world’s biggest challenges. The program runs through May 4, culminating in a statewide conference where students will present and debate their resolutions with peers from across California.
Building Confidence Through Debate
For students who want to develop leadership skills, boost confidence, and learn how to make persuasive arguments, MUN provides the perfect platform. Delegates will research global issues, write position papers, and engage in debates that challenge them to think critically and work together.
“This program really helps kids find their voice,” said Connie Tibbetts-Milner, coordinator for the Simi Valley Family YMCA delegation. “They learn how to present their ideas clearly and confidently, which is a skill that will serve them for life.”
