Simi Valley Seniors Are Dancing Again, and It’s All Happening at the Senior Center

Friday Night Dances Return to Simi Valley Senior Center This August
Live music, themed nights, and dance lessons bring the community together once a month

(CLAIR | Simi Valley, CA) — After a long break, the Friday Night Dances are coming back to the Simi Valley Senior Center. Starting August 8, these monthly events will give older adults in the community a place to dance, meet new people, and enjoy a night out—all for just ten bucks at the door.

The dances will happen on the second Friday of each month through November. Each one will have live music, a different theme, and a free dance lesson. It’s open to anyone who wants to show up, whether you’ve been dancing for years or just want to try something new.

“These dances offer a wonderful opportunity for adults in our community to enjoy an evening of music, movement, and connection, all while supporting a meaningful cause,” said Dina McFee, program chair for the Council On Aging. “Whether you’re a seasoned dancer or stepping onto the floor for the first time, everyone is welcome.”

The doors open at 6:00 p.m., and the dance lesson runs from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. After that, the band plays and people hit the floor.

Here’s what’s coming up:

  • August 8 – Hawaiian Luau night with live music from The Wyatt Haupt Trio and a cha-cha dance lesson.
  • September 12 – Sock Hop theme with music by Zaremba and a hustle lesson.
  • October 10 – Halloween party with Pier 101 Band and an East Coast swing lesson.
  • November 14 – Veterans Day tribute featuring Tropic Starr Band and a two-step lesson.

Each event is also a fundraiser. The money raised helps the Council On Aging provide services for seniors in Simi Valley—things like transportation, meal programs, and wellness checks. Many of the volunteers are local residents who give their time to keep these programs going.

If you’ve ever been to one of these dances in the past, you know it’s not just about the music. People come early to catch up with friends, grab a cookie or cup of punch, and enjoy the easygoing atmosphere. There’s always someone willing to show a beginner a few steps.

The Senior Center, located at 3900 Avenida Simi, is known for hosting a wide range of events—from holiday parties to wellness expos. It’s a place where a lot of seniors go to stay active and connected. The Friday dances are one of the more popular programs, especially because they’re affordable and welcoming.

If you’ve been looking for something to do on a Friday night that doesn’t involve staring at a screen, this might be it. You don’t need a partner, and no one’s keeping score. It’s just a chance to move, laugh, and maybe meet someone new.

Bring your dancing shoes and a smile. The music starts soon.
