Simi Valley Samaritan Center is giving you a second chance, May 14. The totally awesome high school prom do-over.

(CLAIR | Simi Valley) — Not everyone got the prom they deserved. Some people were too nervous to ask anyone. Some couldn’t afford the ticket and some just didn’t go.

And, of course, some went, had a perfectly fine time, but have spent the last twenty years convinced they could do it better. The Samaritan Center of Simi Valley is giving all of us another shot.

The Second Chance Prom is coming to The Vineyards on Thursday, May 14, 2026, and it is exactly what it sounds like — a full prom night, built for adults, with a cause behind it that makes the whole thing mean something. Doors open at 5:00 p.m. and the evening runs until 9:30 p.m. There will be music, a dance floor, photo opportunities, and a room full of Ventura County Gen-X’ers who showed up, dressed in their best and ready to have a genuinely good time.

Prom attire is encouraged. That means sequins are fair game. So are tuxedos, corsages, and the kind of outfit that has been sitting in the back of a closet waiting for exactly this kind of occasion.

But the night is more than a costume party for grown-ups. The Samaritan Center is one of this city’s most essential nonprofits, serving families who are navigating food insecurity, housing instability, and the kind of hardship that doesn’t make the news. The organization provides food assistance, case management, and practical resources that help people move toward stability. Every ticket sold, every bid placed, and every vote cast at the Second Chance Prom goes directly toward keeping those programs running.

And the voting is where things get interesting.

The evening features the crowning of a Prom King and Queen of Compassion — a title that sounds playful until you understand how it works. Nominees are real community members, people recognized for their service, their generosity, and the way they show up for others without being asked. Voters choose their favorites by making donations. Every dollar is a vote. The more the community gives, the more the title means. It turns a fun tradition into something with actual stakes — and actual impact.

The auctions raise the stakes further. Both a silent auction and a live auction run throughout the evening, offering guests the chance to bid on items and experiences while the night builds toward its close. Silent auctions have a way of pulling people in slowly — a glance here, a number written down there — until suddenly everyone is watching the clock and raising their paddles. The live auction brings the energy up when the room needs it most.

Local businesses and organizations have the opportunity to get involved through sponsorship packages that offer brand visibility, community recognition, and a direct connection to one of the city’s most active nonprofits. It is one of the clearest ways a local business can put its name next to something that genuinely matters. Sponsorship details are available at samaritancentersimivalley.org/prom2026.

The Vineyards, located at 2525 Stow Street, gives the event a setting worthy of the occasion. It is the kind of venue that makes people stand a little straighter when they walk in, which is exactly the point. The Samaritan Center wants this to feel special — not like a school gymnasium decorated in streamers, but like a real night out that also happens to change lives.

Executive Director Annika Sumby leads the organization and can be reached at (805) 579-9166 ext. 222 for anyone interested in sponsorships or media inquiries. General tickets and event information are available at samaritancentersimivalley.org/prom2026 or by emailing info@samcentersv.org.

Simi Valley has a long history of showing up for its own. The Second Chance Prom is one more opportunity to do exactly that — dressed well, dancing freely, and giving back to the neighbors who need it most. May 14 is the date. The Vineyards is the place. The only thing left is the outfit.
