CLARITY: Wordle is an an online word game that has become incredibly popular in recent weeks.
Here’s how you can beat the Wordle algorithm, every time.
To start, Wordle gives you six tries to guess a new five-letter word each day.
The game has become incredible popular on social media. You may have noticed the strange green and yellow boxes showing up recently on Twitter and other platforms.
The game has become so popular and addictive, New York Times announced that it had bought rights to the game for several million dollars.
The first key to success at Wordle is to start with a word that contains as many common letters or vowels as possible.
One such word is: ADIEU
This word takes care of four vowels at once, giving you a clear picture of which of the five are either included in the puzzle or not.
Another such word is: SOARE
Fans of the game argue, ‘soare’, an old word meaning young hawk, is actually a better starting word. It maximizes both the most common letters and their most common positions. Letter position being a critical component in winning the game.
A variation in using letters in the word ‘soare’ is: AROSE
Using a list of 8,000 five-letter Scrabble words, a Wordle enthusiast found that s, e, a, r, and o are the top five most common letters. It stands to reason, a word containing those five letters has an increased probability of being the winning result.
It’s also been pointed out, that ‘i’ is the sixth most common letter, meaning that a word like ‘arise’ or ‘raise’ might also be a good bet.
Even with these tips, Wordle can be frustrating at times. Even though you start with the most optimal word, we seen times when five gray blocks stare back at you.
When this happens, try using: LINTY, as a second word.
The word ‘linty’ contains a lot of common letters but no overlap with the letters in ‘soare.’
This would also utilize the letter “i,” the sixth most common letter.
Another tip? Never end a word with an ‘s’. The game includes no plural words as a possible solution to the puzzle.
And if you’re stuck between two words, the advice is to go for the more creative word. Each daily puzzle is hand picked, by a human. If you have a choice between words, go for the one that you think the creator would feel is more interesting or clever.
Whichever strategy you you choose, the creator of the game, Josh Wardle, says to remember, the game was created for people who love words.
