Dutch Bros Moves Closer to Simi Valley with Canyon Country Approval

(CLAIR | Santa Clarita, CA) — For years, Simi Valley residents have been asking the same question: When will Dutch Bros Coffee open here? The Oregon-based drive-thru chain, known for its sugary energy drinks, iced coffee creations, and peppy service, has been steadily expanding across California. Now, the company is taking a step closer to Ventura County with an approved project in Canyon Country.

Approved in Santa Clarita
The Santa Clarita Planning Division recently approved an application for a Dutch Bros location at Golden Valley Road and Soledad Canyon Road. The project includes a 950-square-foot building with a drive-thru window, two drive-thru lanes, and about 350 feet of stacking space to handle long lines of cars. A “runner system,” where employees walk the drive-thru line with handheld devices, is also part of the plan to keep service moving quickly.
The new shop will be built next to a McDonald’s that was also approved for the site. While Dutch Bros confirmed the location is moving forward, the company says no grand opening date has been set.
Why It Matters for Simi Valley
This project marks the closest Dutch Bros has come to Simi Valley so far. Currently, fans often drive to Lancaster, the San Gabriel Valley, or even farther for their fix. The Canyon Country site will cut travel time for Ventura County’s growing population of Dutch Bros. fanatics, bringing the popular chain within a short freeway drive.
Simi Valley has long been seen as a strong candidate for Dutch Bros expansion. The city’s large commuter population, steady retail growth, and car-friendly culture mirror the communities where Dutch Bros has thrived. For now, though, Dutch Bros is inching closer—one approval at a time.
The Dutch Bros Story
Dutch Bros started in 1992 in Grants Pass, Oregon. Brothers Dane and Travis Boersma left the dairy business and set up a pushcart by the railroad tracks. They blasted music, served espresso, and quickly built a following. By 2000, the company launched its first franchise, and today it operates more than 1,000 locations across the U.S.
The chain is best known for its drive-thru-only model, with small buildings designed to serve large volumes of cars. Popular menu items include the “Rebel” energy drinks, iced mochas, flavored lattes, and blended beverages.
What’s Next
While Dutch Bros has not released a construction schedule, approval in Canyon Country suggests that Ventura County may be on the company’s radar. If Simi Valley residents are lucky, the Canyon Country store could be the first step toward finally landing a Dutch Bros closer to home.
For now, locals may have to make the short drive east. But with Dutch Bros building westward across California, it may only be a matter of time before the blue windmill logo pops up in Simi Valley itself.
